Welcome to the CSS Home Page of Diane Marie Kuhn's company, Grove webDesign.
First of all, you must come up with a 'domain' name for your web site. My site’s name is 'dianemariekuhn.com'. It will cost you somewhere between $8.95 and $34.95 to register your domain name for one year with an internet registrar such as GoDaddy or Network Solutions. For example, I registered my domain name with Network Solutions for $34.95/year.
You will then have to pay a web hosting company to serve up your pages on the world wide web. It doesn't do you much good to have a registered domain name if you don't have a server out there to hold your web pages and display them to internet surfers. The hosting company that I use costs me $72.00/year.
Finally, you need some actual web pages. If you can't code them yourself, then I can do it for you. I will build you up to 10 pages to include no more than 50 photos and/or graphics for $710.00. I don't use Front Page, Dreamweaver or any other automated software. I type each and every page myself in a plain text editor, this one included.
If you're nervous about registering a domain name, I'll register your name for you, but you have to reimburse me the cost of registration (usually $8.95 or so at GoDaddy). If you find the thought of dealing with a web host provider intimidating, I'll step in for you and set you up on a top-notch Unix/Linux server with all the bells and whistles, mammoth storage space, massive bandwidth allocation and multiple email addresses, but, again, you have to reimburse me for the cost of hiring the provider (usually $72.00 or thereabouts per year).
You don’t.
But if you want to be a part of the 21st century, you’d better get one.
I won’t take you on as a client unless you agree to participate in your site’s design. Accordingly, before you contact me, you must think a bit about the look and feel of your site. What do you want it to look like? Bright and cheerful? Dark and gloomy? Art deco? No-nonsense professional? You must always remember that I’m not a mind reader. You MUST furnish me with a good idea of the look you hope to achieve.
Be prepared to furnish me with a rough sketch of how you’d like the page(s) to be laid out. Be prepared to furnish me with the photos and graphics you intend to display.
Your participation is the key. Don't just tell me what you want... Show me!
There is nothing much better than building and maintaining your own personal web site.
Bring cash or your checkbook. If you hire me to register your domain name and to set you up with a web hosting provider, I'll need the costs up front (about $81.00). I will also insist upon an initial payment of $210.00 in order to satisfy myself that you’re serious.
That's pretty much it. An initial outpouring of $291.00 will get you on your way.
You’ll be billed for the balance of $500.00 when the pages are completed and uploaded to the server. I usually require about 7 days to get the job done right.
